As we continue to navigate the evolving landscape of electric vehicle (EV) adoption in the UK, the latest March 2026 EV Readiness Index offers a cautiously optimistic outlook.
At AX, we recognise the increasing momentum towards electrification, but we also understand that the journey remains complex and, at times, uncertain; an important consideration for our valued dealership partners.
One of the most notable developments highlighted in the Index is the significant shift in the used EV market. For the first time since September 2025, used EVs are now priced 10% lower than their internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts. This pricing milestone signals greater accessibility for drivers and presents dealerships with new opportunities to engage potential EV customers.

Charging infrastructure has also seen improvement, with the index score rising to 43 (up from 40 in Q4 2025). Maintenance and breakdown data show positive trends as well: 88.7% of EV breakdowns were resolved at the roadside, and only 1.5% were due to lack of charge. These developments demonstrate that the practicalities of EV ownership are steadily improving, making it easier for dealerships to reassure and support customers considering the switch.
However, the Index also underscores ongoing challenges. Mixed messages from Government and continued uncertainty around EV demand could undermine progress. Notably, 55% of surveyed drivers expressed concern that the proposed eVED mileage tax, slated for introduction in 2028, would discourage them from choosing an electric vehicle.
For dealerships, this means that clear, consistent communication and robust aftercare solutions are more crucial than ever. At AX, we are committed to supporting you in this transition. Our white-labelled repair capture service “FNOL” will ensure your customer’s repair is completed by an EV-approved provider, protecting your customer, their safety, and the residual value of their EV. We also provide like-for-like replacement vehicles, including EVs, ensuring your customers experience minimal disruption.

Furthermore, with Evaluate dealerships can offer ICE drivers the opportunity to trial an EV as a replacement vehicle. This extended test drive gives drivers real-world experience, helping them make more informed decisions about EV ownership.
With the EV landscape evolving rapidly, AX remains dedicated to helping dealerships adapt and thrive. Together, we can guide motorists through the transition, building confidence in electric mobility across the UK.
