The Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) has published the top areas of the UK where motor insurance fraud is most common.
Motor fraud can include criminals performing identity theft to take out policies or submit false claims, ‘crash-for-cash’ incidents, or using AI-generated images to falsify an accident for a payout.
The IFB reported almost 30,000 public accounts of potential motor insurance fraud that were submitted in 2025, along with the Association of British Insurers (ABI) which revealed a 12% increase in fraudulent claims year-on-year, costing the economy more than £1 billion.
In 2025, Barking & Dagenham ranked the most popular for fraud in England, with Cemaes Bay and Glasgow highest for Wales and Scotland. Northern Ireland saw Crumlin as its biggest hotspot. These rankings followed analysis of more than 3.3 million vehicle insurance claims by the IFB.
As a technology-lead business, AX constantly develops existing processes and establishes new methods for combatting fraud, meaning claims are handled with increasing efficiency and care to minimise criminal activity.
In the event of an incident, AX can provide like-for-like replacement vehicles where needed, while the driver’s car is repaired by an expert bodyshop within AX’s accredited network.
Every year, more than 40,000 repairs are channelled into AX’s trusted network of bodyshops – a testament to its reputation and the strong relationships it builds with partners across the UK.
